Prompt: While arguing a Dartmouth-related case before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1818, Daniel Webster, Class of 1801, uttered this memorable line: “It is, Sir…a small college. And yet, there are those who love it!” As you seek admission to the Class of 2022, what aspects of the College’s program, community, or campus environment attract your interest?
I remember begging my older sister to play make-believe, enthralled by hours spent creating stuffed animal circuses and magical foreign academies. Dartmouth reminds me of those rainy days with our minds as our entertainment. I’ve eavesdropped on enough bizarrely brilliant conversations betweens students to recognize that this school is an intellectual playground.
Opening a cookbook written in 1769, I find Dartmouth: When the oven is preheated to some negative degrees (true to a New Hampshire winter), the College’s special recipe of unique thinkers, generous funding for delightfully ridiculous activities, and a lack of cosmopolitan entertainment creates an irresistible, inimitable dish.
